This is the life story of Marlyna, a Filipino girl with autistic features when she was small. World War II robbed four precious years of her life and the memory of a Japanese soldier aiming a bayonet at her pregnant aunt lingers. This round-as-a-ball 6 year-old stumbled and slipped in the darkness, as she ran away from the enemies.

Marlyna migrated to Canada and endured the plight of a new immigrant. The dream for her siblings and mother to enter the new country is her valued accomplishment, a gesture of family unity. In 1993, the Service Excellence Award from the Ministry of Housing she received became her crowning achievement.

Her experience with WWII, the separation of her parents and siblings and her migration to Canada makes her a well-seasoned grandmother and her first book, a “must read.”
